Job Description
Data Engineer I at Travelers builds and operates data solutions and pipelines to enable enterprise wide AI/ML analytics, leveraging AWS, Python, and GenAI capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Build and operationalize complex data solutions, fix problems, apply transformations, and propose data cleansing and quality improvements.
- Design data solutions that support analytical needs.
- Analyze data sources to assess value and recommend data to include in analytics processes.
- Incorporate core data management practices including data governance, data security, and data quality.
- Collaborate within and across teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products and analytic environments.
- Perform data and system analysis, assess and resolve defects and incidents of moderate complexity, and implement appropriate fixes.
- Test data movement, transformation code, and data components to ensure reliability.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or equivalent.
- 3+ years in a data engineer role, with additional time in the IT industry or an engineering related field, adding up to 7+ years.
- 2+ years of hands-on ETL experience with Python or PySpark.
- Experience with cloud platforms and cloud services, preferably AWS; also familiar with Azure or Google Cloud.
- Experience developing generative AI applications and large language models or equivalent technologies.
- Proficient use of tools and technologies including cloud platforms, programming languages, and software engineering practices.
- Ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace, decompose tasks into small releases, and participate in tradeoff discussions.
- Demonstrated domain expertise with the ability to understand technical concepts and current systems.
- Strong problem solving and debugging skills to identify issues in unfamiliar code or systems and address recurring problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with team members and business partners.
- Intermediate leadership skills with a proven track record of self-motivation and personal growth.
