Job Description

Data Engineer I at Travelers builds and operates data solutions and pipelines to enable enterprise wide AI/ML analytics, leveraging AWS, Python, and GenAI capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operationalize complex data solutions, fix problems, apply transformations, and propose data cleansing and quality improvements.
  • Design data solutions that support analytical needs.
  • Analyze data sources to assess value and recommend data to include in analytics processes.
  • Incorporate core data management practices including data governance, data security, and data quality.
  • Collaborate within and across teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products and analytic environments.
  • Perform data and system analysis, assess and resolve defects and incidents of moderate complexity, and implement appropriate fixes.
  • Test data movement, transformation code, and data components to ensure reliability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years in a data engineer role, with additional time in the IT industry or an engineering related field, adding up to 7+ years.
  • 2+ years of hands-on ETL experience with Python or PySpark.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and cloud services, preferably AWS; also familiar with Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Experience developing generative AI applications and large language models or equivalent technologies.
  • Proficient use of tools and technologies including cloud platforms, programming languages, and software engineering practices.
  • Ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace, decompose tasks into small releases, and participate in tradeoff discussions.
  • Demonstrated domain expertise with the ability to understand technical concepts and current systems.
  • Strong problem solving and debugging skills to identify issues in unfamiliar code or systems and address recurring problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with team members and business partners.
  • Intermediate leadership skills with a proven track record of self-motivation and personal growth.
