Data Engineer II, Intelligence & Industrialization

As a Data Engineer II on Amazon's Intelligence & Industrialization initiative, you will design and deliver scalable AWS data solutions for transportation procurement and international customs, including end-to-end ETL pipelines, data warehousing, and self-service analytics. Salary: USD 132,100 - 178,800 per year.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and maintain scalable data platforms on AWS (Redshift, S3, Glue, EMR) to provide dependable access to large transportation and customs datasets for multiple teams.
• Design complete ETL workflows that ingest, transform, and load data from diverse sources, ensuring timely delivery of key business metrics with emphasis on automation, efficiency, and fault tolerance.
• Optimize database performance through workload management, query tuning, and monitoring to sustain high availability and fast analytics responses.
• Collaborate with BI Engineers and Data Scientists to deliver self-service analytics, dashboards, and ML-ready data products that shorten time to insight.
• Establish and sustain data quality programs, catalogs, and governance to protect data integrity and enable user discovery and trust.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
• At least 3 years of data engineering experience.
• Experience as a data engineer or in related roles (e.g., software engineer, BI engineer, data scientist) with a proven ability to manipulate, process, and extract value from large datasets.
• Proficiency with SQL.
• Experience in at least one modern programming or scripting language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS.
• Experience designing and operating solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI.

A Day In The Life

• Mornings typically begin with checking pipeline health and addressing data delivery issues, followed by focused work on building or refining ETL pipelines, optimizing Redshift queries, or modeling data structures.
• Afternoons are devoted to collaborating with BI Engineers on visualization requirements, supporting Data Scientists with feature engineering, and translating transportation procurement stakeholder questions into technical solutions.
• Balance hands-on Python and SQL coding with design reviews and ongoing improvements to data architectures.
