Job Description

PNC’s Lending Tech organization is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and operate enterprise-scale transactional database and data movement solutions. The role focuses on highly available, performant, and secure OLTP data stores spanning MySQL and Oracle, supporting lending payment transactions end-to-end.

Role Summary

As a Data Engineer, you will be accountable for enterprise database architecture and implementation decisions that affect transaction integrity, latency, resiliency, and operational excellence. You will partner with application engineering, SRE/operations, and security teams to deliver reliable data services for mission-critical lending payment processing.

Location and Work Arrangement

  • Location: Farmers Branch, TX
  • Work style: Onsite

Compensation

  • Base salary: USD 42,000 to 172,250 per year
  • Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data, and individual skills, experience, and education.
  • The position is incentive eligible, with payment based on company, business, and/or individual performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve an enterprise transactional data model for lending payment processing (OLTP), including schemas, constraints, indexing strategies, partitioning, and retention/archival patterns.
  • Define database standards for reliability, scalability, performance, and resiliency across MySQL and Oracle.
  • Implement and operate high availability and disaster recovery patterns, including validation of operational readiness (failover/failback, replication health, recovery objectives).
  • Drive performance engineering through query tuning, index strategy, execution plan analysis, contention/locking analysis, and workload management.
  • Implement automation for database operations, including provisioning support, patch readiness support, backup validation, health checks, and runbook-driven execution.
  • Design and support replication and data movement strategies for resiliency and/or cross-site requirements, with preferred Oracle skills including Golden Gate and Data Guard.
  • Partner with security to enforce encryption-in-transit/at-rest, least privilege, auditing, secrets management integration, and vulnerability remediation for database platforms.
  • Collaborate with application teams on schema evolution, release coordination, and safe migration approaches, including MySQL and Oracle considerations.
  • Produce durable documentation, such as architecture diagrams, decision records, runbooks, and operational validation checklists.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience designing and operating high-volume, enterprise OLTP databases supporting mission-critical transactions.
  • Advanced SQL and performance tuning experience across MySQL and Oracle, including query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and execution plan analysis.
  • Experience applying operational best practices: backup/restore validation, patch planning, monitoring/alerting, incident response, and runbooks.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and security with clear, structured communication.
  • Education: BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Works closely with users, developers, operations, and business partners to define data service requirements and data preparation process development.
  • Implements data migration and transformation activities/processes to ensure accuracy and security of data solutions.

Position Overview

In PNC’s Lending Tech organization, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining highly available, performant, and secure data stores and data movement patterns across MySQL and Oracle. The role includes partnering closely with application engineering, SRE/operations, and security teams and delivering database solutions that support transaction integrity, latency, resiliency, and operational excellence.

Success Criteria (First 6 to 12 Months)

  • Improve database performance and stability through measurable tuning and operational guardrails, such as reduced latency and fewer recurring incidents.
  • Establish clear HA/DR posture with validated runbooks and repeatable failover readiness checks.
  • Document a scalable schema/partitioning/retention strategy for payment transactions that supports volume growth.

Job Description (Data Services)

  • Develops, supports, and implements data services for multiple applications to meet business objectives and user requirements by designing, building, and maintaining technology solutions.
  • Designs and builds data service infrastructure on multiple data platforms aligned to business processes and end-to-end workflow.
  • Develops and implements data solutions for multiple applications to ensure scalability, availability, and maintainability.

Preferred Qualifications (Oracle Focus)

  • Oracle Exadata experience (engineering/tuning/operations on Exadata platforms).
  • Oracle Data Guard experience for HA/DR, including role transitions and validation of primary/standby states.
  • Oracle Golden Gate experience for replication design and operations.
  • Understanding of enterprise MySQL deployment and replication patterns, such as primary/replica cross-site patterns.
  • Owns significant components of the database platform with minimal guidance, such as specific schemas/domains, key performance areas, or HA/DR operational ownership.
  • Owns technical workstreams (for example, partitioning rollout, performance remediation, operational readiness) and drives them to closure.
  • Improves runbooks and automation and contributes to production incident response and prevention.
  • Owns end-to-end database architecture for the platform or a major program, such as enterprise transaction store modernization, MySQL/Oracle strategy, or multi-site replication/DR patterns.
  • Sets standards and serves as an escalation point for complex performance and replication/DR tradeoffs.
  • Mentors engineers/DBAs, drives cross-team alignment, and influences roadmap decisions with measurable operational outcomes (availability, latency, stability).
  • Establishes and enforces engineering rigor through design reviews, operational readiness gates, and evidence-based performance validation.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses
