Design Engineer / Estimator

RidgeRock Retaining Walls LLC is hiring an entry-level Design Engineer / Estimator to support the preparation of preliminary retaining wall solutions and contractor-ready estimates. This onsite role in Charlotte, NC focuses on translating project documentation into practical wall elevations and geogrid reinforcement layouts based on site-specific conditions.

Role Overview

In this position, you will review grading plans and geotechnical reports, then develop preliminary wall design components that reflect external loads, slope geometry, and hydrostatic pressures. You will also help prepare estimates using the company’s proprietary estimating tools, ensuring deliverables align with the information available for each site.

Key Responsibilities

• Review grading plans to develop wall elevations for retaining wall preliminary designs
• Interpret geotechnical reports to assess site conditions and inform design decisions
• Design geogrid reinforcement layouts that consider external loads, slope geometry, hydrostatic pressures, and other critical engineering factors
• Deliver detailed preliminary designs tailored to site-specific conditions for contractors

Requirements

• Engineering or construction related technical degree is preferred
• Engineering/construction degree or relevant industry experience is required (Yes or No)

Tools and Technologies

• Microsoft Excel
• Industry-standard geogrid design tools
• RidgeRock’s proprietary estimating software

Compensation and Schedule

Salary: USD 50,000 to 65,000 per year.

• Schedule: Monday to Friday; no weekends
• Work location: In person (onsite in Charlotte, NC)
