Distribution Engineer

Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative (JPEC) is hiring a Distribution Engineer to support electric power system planning and applications engineering work. Based in Paducah, KY onsite, this role helps advance safe, reliable electric distribution through studies, planning support, coordination with operations, and project work that may include field time and non-standard hours.

What you’ll do

• Support the planning, preparation, and implementation of system analysis and planning studies.
• Assist in developing and implementing construction specifications and procedures.
• Help prepare engineering drawings and staking for subdivision layouts, state highway projects, mapping records, and other assigned work.
• Use tools including outage management systems, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, engineering analysis software, and mapping systems to help operations personnel develop and maintain a safe and reliable electric distribution system.
• Contribute to sectionalizing studies and ensure proper system coordination.
• Coordinate with JPEC operations supervisors, crews, and contractors to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Work with JPEC members to address questions or concerns.
• Partner with staking personnel to help design work orders that meet member needs while following JPEC policies and procedures.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering and operation agreements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required; electrical engineering preferred.
• Specialized training in electric utility systems design and operation preferred.
• Cooperative experience preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Ability to build thorough understanding of electric power distribution design, construction, and operation.
• Ability to build thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code, JPEC tariffs, policies and procedures, and Kentucky PSC rules and regulations.
• Must be able to work non-standard hours and/or extended hours beyond the normal shift, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during emergencies in all weather conditions.
• Physical ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods; lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and lift over 50 pounds occasionally.
• Regular use of hands, fingers, and wrists for gripping, grasping, feeling, or twisting.
• Occasional requirements to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Specific vision abilities: close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Operate a computer keyboard and mouse daily.
• Must live within a 30-mile radius of JPEC headquarters, have a valid driver’s license, maintain good attendance and punctuality, travel as needed, and participate in designated training programs when necessary.

Compensation and job details

• Salary: USD 74,000 - 110,000 per year
