The Senior Product Design Electrical Engineer will lead the design, development, and qualification of busduct and tap-off box electrical distribution equipment for AWS data centers, coordinating with global teams and suppliers to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost-effective power delivery solutions. Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal partner teams to capture customer input and define design requirements for products.
- Lead the design, development, and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers, with emphasis on busduct systems and TOBs, and coordinate with LV switchgear, power distribution cabinets, and rack-level power delivery.
- Develop Capex and Opex budgets considering vendor costs, prototyping needs, testing, and specialized tooling requirements.
- Engage global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate busduct and TOB components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
- Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across multiple countries through appropriate testing.
- Validate designs through prototypes, pre-production, and first-of-kind builds; perform DFx and value engineering analyses and update design documentation accordingly.
- Collaborate with field engineering and commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of busduct and TOB products.
- Provide manufacturing support for new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographic locations.
- Lead within the product development team and with internal and external teams that support the data center.
Requirements
- 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience developing solutions and executing plans on complex projects.
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
