The Distribution Planning Engineer 4 position supports Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division (MLGW) in analyzing, planning, and improving the electric distribution system. The role combines technical studies, design and budgeting support, coordination with internal and external stakeholders, and guidance to assigned personnel to maintain code and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Train and direct assigned non-bargaining and bargaining unit employees in the analysis, planning, and system improvement of the electric distribution system.
- Provide planning and system improvement for the electric distribution and transmission system using actual and predicted load data.
- Conduct detailed studies and planning for electric distribution systems using computer analysis.
- Prepare, review, and approve engineering designs/drawings, specifications, and requisitions; evaluate and recommend gathering and interpreting load data and projections; and develop capital improvement budget inputs.
- Coordinate departmental work including site evaluation, planning for system improvement, follow-up, and problem-solving with Division areas/departments, consulting engineers, governmental agencies, and other outside parties.
- Prepare records and reports, including support for budgets and assigned employees performance evaluations.
- Provide technical advice and instructions regarding electric distribution systems to Division personnel and other requesting parties; attend meetings to resolve issues and answer questions.
- Conduct field trips to collect information and ensure compliance with designs, codes, and policies; authorize field charges of construction drawings as required; investigate questions/complaints related to electric services and power quality; investigate electrical accidents; and testify in court for the Division.
- Stay current with rules, codes, and governmental regulations to support proper compliance; serve on committees and participate in industry/technical organizations; and develop standards, procedures, and practices for design and construction.
- Maintain responsibility for safe work practices for employees.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Must have a Tennessee Professional Engineer’s License.
- At least 5 years of experience in electric transmission or distribution planning and/or electrical distribution design.
- Must successfully complete NIMS Training within 1 year of entering the job.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license from the state of residence.

Compensation
Salary range: USD 108,284 to 135,345 per year.
Minimum salary: 108,284.80
