Job Description
At Nestlé Nutrition’s Fremont Plant in Fremont, Michigan, this Electrical and Automation Engineer role supports maintenance and project work across electrical systems, process control, MES, automation, and IT. You will help strengthen technical capability on site while maintaining strong attention to operational safety and environmental compliance, contributing to reliable manufacturing performance.
What you’ll do
- Attend system training with the goal of becoming a Fremont Site subject matter expert.
- Support production lines and help train peers.
- Provide hardware and software application support assistance to operations.
- Manage and participate in developing project scopes, design and standards, and functional specifications.
- Manage and participate in project execution, including concept development, credit submission, bidding process, contractor management, procurement, installation, and commissioning.
- Conduct system start-ups, qualification, and handover.
- Develop and optimize the planned maintenance (PM) plan and supervise Planned Maintenance execution.
- Specify, organize, and maintain adequate spare parts for control and instrumentation systems.
- Keep key documentation and drawings updated for Network Infrastructure, Electrical System & Process Control, instrument calibration, and PIDs, following management of change procedures.
- Assist in the development, implementation, repair, and maintenance of site wide instrumentation, automation control, MES, and electrical systems to drive “World Class” performance.
- Act as an overall technical resource across several production areas.
- Lead skilled tradesmen and participate in maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot production equipment and improve line performance and reliability.
- Create training documents, develop training plans, and facilitate classroom and hands-on training to coach and develop electrical/control technicians, instrument technicians, and other personnel.
- Support Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) and Total Performance Management (TPM) within the Business Unit.
- Follow Fremont Factory safety and environmental objectives and targets, follow plant safety rules, report unsafe conditions immediately, and report incidents immediately or by end of shift in accordance with Safety & Environmental Management System procedures and programs.
- Monitor progress and provide guidance in electricity and automation to support successful implementation of capital projects and maintenance activities.
- Provide engineering guidance and support to meet site engineering targets and objectives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Minimum 2+ years of electrical and automation engineering experience.
- Factory Automation and Industrial Electrical systems experience in the pharmaceutical or food industry.
- Knowledge of electricity, instrumentation, and MES (Manufacturing Execution System).
- Specialization in process control, including PLC, HMI/SCADA, and Network/IT topics.
- Extensive experience with AB Control Logix, AVEVA System Platform, HMI/SCADA applications, and Siemens control systems, along with electrical and electronic circuits (480V and below).
- Experience with industrial FANUC Robot technology, servo, and motion controls.
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization, with strong interpersonal, communication, and networking skills.
- Good organizational and administrative skills.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
- SAP knowledge is desirable.
- Process qualification and validation experience in the pharmaceutical or food industry (IQ, OQ, PQ).
- Strong project management skills.
- Good knowledge and experience with factory automation systems (hardware & software), including process automation, PLC, SCADA/HMI, MES and digital manufacturing systems with integration to enterprise systems (SAP), IT/OT infrastructure, industrial networks, control database systems, and field devices (instruments, I/O, field networks, VFD’s, valves, pumps).
- Experience with instrumentation including temperature, pressure, flow, and mass density; power distribution in industrial facilities; and pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

Supervision
- Received: Overall MES-E & A strategy and direction from a Corporate MES-E&A Engineer, plus detailed procedures and initiative implementation directions, with communication of targets and objectives and progress monitoring.
- Provided: Guidance in electricity and automation to support successful implementation of capital projects and maintenance activities, and support to meet engineering targets and objectives.
