Electrical Design Engineer - Power Systems
Job Description
Lead electrical power system design and analysis work for plant modifications, upgrades, and commissioning support.
- Develop engineering design packages, including calculations, specifications, and drawings for electrical system modifications and upgrades
- Run and document load flow, short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, and voltage drop studies
- Evaluate and specify power equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, MCCs, VFDs, generators, and auxiliary power equipment
- Create technical specifications and procurement documentation
- Review and interpret one-line diagrams, control wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, and other plant drawings
- Produce and review Engineering Change documentation and records including equipment database entries, electrical elementary diagrams, connection diagrams, wiretabs, bills of material, and cable cards
- Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and post-modification testing
- Perform technical evaluations, design reviews, and engineering change assessments
- Collaborate with project management, operations, maintenance, vendors, and other engineering disciplines
- Maintain configuration control to ensure drawings, calculations, and equipment records match completed changes
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less-experienced engineers
Requirements
- Approximately 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Working knowledge of electrical power systems and distribution
- Power system analysis and modeling
- Experience with protective relay coordination
- Transformer sizing and application
- Switchgear and circuit breaker specification
- Cable ampacity and routing calculations
- Grounding system design
- Electrical equipment troubleshooting
- Electrical modifications and configuration management
- Electrical equipment commissioning and testing
- Technical specifications and engineering reports
- Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NFPA, NESC, and other applicable electrical codes and standards
