Electrical Engineer
Job Description
The Electrical Engineer role is based onsite in Charlotte, NC, supporting Okuma’s manufacturing solutions through rigorous design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical systems. The position emphasizes quality, cost control, and standardization while handling RFEs, ECOs, and SOs within ERP processes.
Responsibilities
- Process Requests for Engineering Quotations (RFEQs) to support sales and project execution
- Provide direct technical support to sales, service, distributors, and partners as required
- Develop and maintain electrical designs for manufacturing solutions, including peripheral integration
- Create and maintain design documentation such as functional specifications, installation instructions, wiring diagrams and tables, and BOMs
- Process and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Conduct investigations and root cause analysis for Notifications of Problem (NOPs)
- Drive continuous improvement of electrical designs, systems, and processes
- Support standardization efforts, including common components and design practices
- Create and maintain project schedules to meet delivery commitments
- Perform conceptual and detailed electrical design work
- Support U.S. sourcing of components and systems
- Manage cost control and cost reduction initiatives while meeting cost objectives
- Evaluate and specify electrical and electromechanical components
- Troubleshoot electromechanical systems, components, and integrated solutions
- Perform basic setup, programming, and troubleshooting of PLCs, motor drives, and industrial communication systems
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
- 3 to 7 years of hands-on experience designing, troubleshooting, and improving electrical systems in industrial, manufacturing, or automation environments
- Comfortable navigating engineering paperwork and ERP workflows, including RFEQs, ECOs, Sales Orders
- Proven experience creating real-world electrical designs and documentation, including wiring diagrams, BOMs, and functional specifications
- Hands-on approach to troubleshooting electromechanical systems and conducting root-cause analyses
- Working knowledge of PLCs, motor drives, and industrial communication systems with basic setup, programming, and troubleshooting capabilities
- Ability to own standard designs independently while collaborating on more complex or custom challenges
- Curious, analytical mindset focused on making designs better, simpler, and more standardized
- Clear communicator capable of partnering with sales, service, manufacturing, and suppliers
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree preferred
- 3–7 years of electrical design experience preferred
- Prior software coding experience preferred
- Experience with PLC and motor drives programming and familiarity with industrial communication protocols (preferred)
- Skilled at progressing from problem statements to well-documented and tested designs
- Understanding and application of ISO, OSHA, and ANSI standards
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
- 10% travel to work with customers, distributors, and partners
