Electrical Engineer

BBM Railway Solutions builds and supports railway maintenance equipment, including control systems used in day-to-day operations. As an Electrical Engineer on-site in Youngstown, OH, you will design and program electrical control solutions, support aftermarket maintenance activities, and help drive machine upgrades through documentation, testing, and troubleshooting.

This role blends electrical design work with PLC/VFD/HMI programming and hands-on factory support, along with occasional remote assistance for field start-up, testing, and service repair.

What you will do

• Design power, control, and safety systems for railway maintenance and production equipment.
• Create electrical schematic and wiring diagram drawings, and generate Bills of Material.
• Collaborate with suppliers of major electrical and control products, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Nidec.
• Complete PLC, VFD, and HMI programming to meet customer specification requirements.
• Develop functional design for new equipment and upgrades using internal sales documentation, customer specifications, BBM Engineering standards, and previously designed machines.
• Size electrical enclosures and develop operator console and panel layouts.
• Prepare an Operator’s Manual for sequence of operation as part of customer documentation.
• Prepare a Test Plan to functionally test equipment for quality and contract specification compliance.
• Work with other Engineers and Technicians during hands-on factory testing and troubleshooting.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose faulty electrical components and/or control software issues, then resolve.
• Provide remote assistance as required for field support during start-up, testing, warranty, and service repair of equipment.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology (preferred).
• Minimum 3-5 years of related experience.
• Programming experience with Rockwell Automation, Siemens Step 7, and NIDEC/Control Techniques. GE Proficy and Schneider Unity are a plus.
• Ability to create electrical design drawings using AutoCAD.
• Prior knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to demonstrate technical writing.
• Strong customer satisfaction mindset.
• Knowledge of applicable electrical and safety standards.
• Willingness to travel occasionally, approximately 15%.
