Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Actalent is hiring an Electrical Engineer (contract) to lead circuit and PCB redesign work for a mature electronic device, with a hybrid schedule in Maple Grove, MN.
Responsibilities
- Redesign and enhance an existing electronic device in production for 10–15 years, targeting improved performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Conduct circuit design for new and updated electronic boards to support robust, safe, and efficient operation
- Create and update PCB layouts in Altium, following best practices for signal integrity, manufacturability, and serviceability
- Review existing schematics across current boards and refresh them to replace obsolete components and technologies
- Partner with product development stakeholders to convert functional requirements into detailed electrical designs
- Support redesign of the device’s user interface hardware, including work tied to transitioning from a 7-inch to a 5-inch LCD controller
- Verify electrical designs comply with relevant standards and are suitable for transfer to manufacturing
- Troubleshoot and resolve design issues surfaced during prototyping, testing, or production
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation for schematics, layouts, and design changes to support product lifecycle management
Requirements
- Proven electrical engineering experience with a focus on circuit design and hardware development
- Strong proficiency in PCB design and layout, specifically using Altium design tools
- Ability to design and modify Altium-based boards, including creating and updating schematics and layouts
- Solid understanding of electronic components, board-level design, and best practices for long-term product support
- Experience working with existing products and refreshing designs to address component obsolescence and modern requirements

Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with user interface hardware design, particularly LCD controllers and related display electronics
- Background in hardware product development with close work alongside cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with redesigning or updating mature products that have been on the market for many years
- Formal education in electrical engineering or a closely related field is preferred

Pay and Benefits
- Pay range: $45.00 - $65.00 per hour
- Compensation within the range depends on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other job-related factors
