Electrical Reliability Engineer

The Electrical Reliability Engineer will provide regional support for electrical maintenance and reliability activities, partnering with plant and corporate stakeholders to help ensure safe, dependable operation of production facilities in Pittsburg, CA.

Position Overview

This role is based in Pittsburg, CA with onsite work and regional support responsibility. The Electrical Reliability Engineer reports to the Reliability Manager and collaborates with the regional reliability team and other corporate, regional, and plant personnel to achieve tactical reliability goals.

The overall objective of the position is to ensure safe and reliable operation of production facilities at the lowest life cycle cost.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical resource for maintenance and reliability of low/medium/high voltage electrical distribution equipment, including switchgear and transformers, as well as synchronous and induction motors.
• Monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including transformer oil testing, thermography, and partial discharge analysis, and ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
• Identify and resolve regional chronic electrical asset concerns, including bad actors.
• Develop and execute small electrical expense/capital projects for reliability improvement (projects under $500k).
• Manage resolution planning for long-term electrical asset concerns related to reliability threats.
• Assess equipment performance data to support optimal and efficient performance of regional electrical assets.
• Assist with corrective-maintenance, preventive-maintenance, and project cost estimation for regional electrical assets.
• Support turnaround planning and execution for regional electrical assets.
• Lead the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process for major electrical failures.
• Drive resolution of highest impact issues with a strong sense of urgency and integrity.

Requirements

• Education: Associate/Bachelor Degree in Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance/reliability engineering in an industrial manufacturing environment focused on electrical assets. Non-degreed candidates require a minimum of 15 years of experience in the same domain.
• Proven experience installing and troubleshooting electrical distribution systems including low/medium/high voltage switchgear, transformers, and synchronous/induction motors.
• Proven knowledge of electrical preventive and predictive maintenance methodologies and technologies.
• Proven communication, team interaction, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and lead or participate on cross-functional teams.
• Proven experience as a self-starter managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
• Proven experience with computers and standard software packages (MS Office, E-mail, etc.), including use of CMMS systems.

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in maintenance management or team leadership for exempt and non-exempt employees/contractors executing planned and emergency work.
• Understanding of regulatory and industrial standards and codes.
• Understanding of control and instrumentation systems in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Experience with electrical documentation software (e.g., SKM Power Tools, AutoCad, Visio).
• Experience with electrical distribution system equipment software packages (SEL AcSELerator, GE 469, ABB, Siemens, etc.).
• Knowledge of reliability methodologies and strategies including RCM, TPM, FMEA, RCA, Spare Parts Management, Planning & Scheduling, and CMMS optimization.

Work Arrangement and Travel

This position requires a combination of office work and field work. Typical domestic travel is approximately 25%. Accessibility during off-hours (laptop and cell phone) is occasionally required.
