Job Description

An engineering professional within the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division leads and coordinates C2 and weapons integration for Refueling Complex Overhaul on NIMITZ-class aircraft carriers. This role focuses on planning, execution oversight, and the seamless integration of CVN-based combat systems including SSDS, NSSMS, RAM, CIWS, and MGS during RCOH events.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an Engineer in NSWCDD's Site and Ship Integration Branch (V34).
  • Act as the Command and Control and Weapons Technical Lead for RCOH Aircraft Carriers, directly supporting the Mission Systems Engineering Manager.
  • Provide expertise for Ship Self Defense System (SSDS), NATO SeaSparrow Surface Missile System (NSSMS), RIM-116 RAM, Phalanx CIWS, and MK 38 Machine Gun System (MGS).
  • Oversee planning and execution of the C2 portions for the RCOH availability on NIMITZ-class carriers.
  • Document current shipboard configurations, develop work scope packages, and review system documentation for Navy standards and ship installation practices.
  • Identify, refine, and document inter-system and shipboard interfaces; review Ship Installation Drawings and provide engineering support to resolve waterfront issues.
  • Deliver primary artifacts including Liaison Action Report (eLAR/DLAR) resolution/review, work package development and scoping, and technical drawing review.
  • Produce Ship Installation drawing reviews, Design Exchange development, Compartment arrangement drawings in Autodesk Inventor, and interface-focused Block Wiring Diagrams in Autodesk AutoCAD.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Suitability for federal employment and enrollment in direct deposit pay program.
  • New DoD hires must successfully pass E-Verify.
  • Retiree-related DoD rules apply within 180 days of retirement per 5 U.S.C. 3326.
  • Selective Service registration for males born after 12-31-1959.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain interim and/or final security clearance prior to entry on duty.
  • Certification under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) in the assigned Acquisition Functional Area and category within established timeframes.
  • Travel to CONUS/OCONUS locations and to remote or isolated sites; ability to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
  • Occasional sea duty may be required.
  • Education: Professional Engineering Degree from an ABET-accredited institution, or a degree with calculus and relevant coursework in statics/dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, and materials properties, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as defined for the Professional Engineering Series (08XX).
  • Substitution of Education/Experience: demonstrated knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering and practical application in the engineering discipline; see guidelines for acceptable substitutions.
