Job Description

A senior traffic engineering leadership role in Knoxville, TN onsite, overseeing planning, design, and coordination with clients and agencies.

Responsibilities

Lead planning and design activities for traffic engineering across multiple projects.
Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and maintain clear client communications.
Investigate proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to verify compliance with applicable rules and standards.
Direct the design of traffic control devices, including quantities, cost estimates, and specifications for bid packages for federal, state, and local agencies.
Conduct and review traffic operations and safety analyses.
Prepare and present technical reports and findings to clients, agencies, and the public.
Mentor junior engineers and support staff to foster technical growth and collaboration.
Lead, plan, budget, and deliver traffic engineering projects such as traffic studies, signal design, ITS design, signing and pavement marking, and construction traffic control plans.
Manage multidisciplinary teams and serve as the primary point of contact for clients and agency partners.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license, or PTOE preferred.
10+ years of post-licensure experience in traffic and transportation engineering.
Proven experience managing transportation projects and leading design teams.
Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, standards, and software tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, AutoCAD, MicroStation).
Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex technical information clearly.
Experience working with federal, state, and local transportation agencies.

Responsibilities

Requirements

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Experience preparing final design plans, specifications, and estimates.
Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, time-management, and organizational abilities.
