Job Description
Join HII in Newport News, VA (onsite) to support the development of prototype electromechanical systems and strengthen the documentation that keeps the A1B propulsion plant running smoothly. This role combines hands-on engineering work with technical manual development, including research, verification with subject matter experts, and collaboration across internal and external teams. Salary range is USD 124,000 - 153,000 per year, with final clearance required to start.
Responsibilities
- Apply electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, documentation of results, construction of developmental assemblies and sub-assemblies, and quality testing.
- Support and participate in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.
- Develop and maintain Propulsion Plant Manual (PPM) content that describes the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fluid and mechanical systems within the A1B propulsion plant.
- Collaborate with system and component engineers, NNL, NAVSEA, and fellow authors to ensure documentation meets technical and quality standards.
- Conduct research and apply critical thinking to produce clear, concise manual content that supports plant operations.
- Maintain proficiency in control networks for system components such as valves and pumps.
- Prepare formal letters to the government and the prime contractor for approval of PPM content revisions.
- Verify technical accuracy by working directly with engineers and subject matter experts.
- Participate in peer review cycles, providing and receiving feedback on letters and telecons with internal and external customers.
- Maintain consistency with established authoring guidelines and documentation standards.
- Stay current on plant operations and maintenance practices to improve the manual’s relevance over time.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience
- Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience
- Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
