Job Description
The Engineering Specialist – Materials Engineer is an on site contract role based in Richland, WA, delivering material engineering support and design guidance for HLW vitrification activities. The position requires US citizenship and an active Secret clearance.

Responsibilities
- Act as the resident material technology expert for the WTP project
- Perform reviews and complete assigned tasks in accordance with procedures, ensuring technical adequacy per company, contract, and industry codes and standards
- Coordinate with other groups to resolve issues
- Revise material specifications and related design deliverables as needed
- Facilitate clear communication with a diverse set of stakeholders
- Collaborate closely with other technical disciplines to plan and execute work as an integrated team
- Deliver engineering tasks within the approved budget and schedule
- Support and uphold a nuclear safety quality culture in daily activities
Requirements
- Master’s degree in engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution with 2 years of experience, or Doctorate in Engineering
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for Hanford Site access
- Must have the right to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Experience in performing calculations and design work related to hydraulics, equipment sizing, and overall system design for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities
Position Description
The Materials Engineer provides engineering support and technical guidance to multiple disciplines for the HLW vitrification design and fabrication processes. The role entails in depth engineering analyses and the development of material engineering solutions to address emergent issues, as well as the creation and maintenance of material specifications and the resolution of material quality concerns.
The engineer reviews and contributes to engineering design deliverables to ensure technical adequacy in areas such as coatings, material selection, compatibility and protection, welding, and metallurgy to help finalize the design. The Engineering Specialist will interact with other engineering disciplines and functional groups to solve complex issues related to the High Level Waste Facility. Work is performed under the direction of a senior technical specialist, project engineers, and/or a Design Authority, with an expectation of effective communication across all levels of staff.
