Job Description

The Associate Engineer, RNA Starting Material MS&T role at Sarepta Therapeutics in Andover, MA focuses on supporting synthesis, purification, analysis, and characterization of nucleoside-based and lipid building blocks for PMOs, next-generation PMO, and siRNA platforms, with involvement in development, scale-up, and tech transfer of RNA starting materials manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Collaborate in a team performing lab-scale organic synthesis, purification, analysis, and characterization of nucleoside-based and lipid building blocks used in Sarepta's PMO, next-gen PMO, and siRNA platforms.
Prepare reference markers and standards and contribute to supervised RNA starting materials manufacturing process chemistry development and scale-up projects to optimize routes and troubleshoot syntheses.
Engage in cross-functional training, coordinate with Analytical/QC resources, and interpret data from HPLC, GC, KF, and NMR analyses.
Draft experimental protocols and generate technical reports, applying strong organic chemistry knowledge and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline, with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
Solid grounding in organic chemistry and the ability to interpret data from GC, LC-MS, HPLC, NMR, and KF; practical experience running HPLC methods is strongly preferred.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and meticulous attention to detail.
May require up to 5% travel, domestically or internationally.

The Importance of the Role

Supports lab-scale synthesis, purification, analysis, and characterization of nucleoside-based and lipid building blocks for PMOs, next-generation PMO, and siRNA platforms.
Contributes to the synthesis of reference markers and participates in supervised RNA starting materials process chemistry development and scale-up to optimize syntheses.
Involves cross-functional training and regular collaboration with Analytical/QC teams, including interpretation of HPLC, GC, KF, and NMR data.
Includes protocol writing and report generation, requiring strong organic chemistry and problem-solving capabilities.

The Opportunity to Make a Difference

Support commercial supply assurance for RNA starting materials by synthesizing nucleoside reference markers and standards.
Execute development studies independently or as part of a supervised team.
Assess scalability of proposed changes and run experiments to mimic large-scale operations.
Participate in technology transfer of improved processes to manufacturing sites.
Build a solid understanding of Sarepta’s manufacturing processes to support process improvements, troubleshooting, and technology transfers.
Perform synthesis and purification of nucleoside analogs to support production and development goals.
Contribute to impurity profiling and collaborative efforts to characterize and manage impurities in intermediates.
Use scientific judgment to identify likely sources of impurities and design experiments to test hypotheses within cross-functional teams.
Compile data, interpret results, document study outcomes, and present conclusions.
Attend vendor update meetings and provide input on ongoing vendor production projects.

More About You

Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline, 0-2 years of experience.
