Field Engineer
Job Description
PCL Construction Services, Inc. seeks an on-site Field Engineer to support a live project in Orlando, Florida. The role emphasizes inspections, safety leadership, document control, and coordinating trade contractors, all while mentoring field engineers and interns. Collaboration with the superintendent and a commitment to quality on complex tasks are central to the position.
Responsibilities
- Lead inspections and orientations, identify hazards and corrective actions, and model health and safety practices on site.
- Collaborate with the superintendent on workforce planning and staffing needs.
- Maintain project document control and processes; assist project engineers and superintendents in guiding trade contractors, including RFIs, shop drawings, changes, and billings.
- Contribute to supervising self-perform scopes, resolve crew sizing, track labor, and monitor quantities for Labor Cost Reports.
- Mentor and coach field engineers and students or interns.
- Identify on-site or scope-related issues and address them as they arise.
- Coordinate third-party inspections and site reviews.
- Assist in crafting, implementing, and supervising the quality plan and the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP).
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with all project partners.
Requirements
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in a related field such as construction management, engineering, or architecture, or equivalent experience.
- 0 to 12 months of varied field engineer or coordinator experience preferred; time gained during internships may count toward experience.
- Knowledge of construction specifications, methods and procedures, including formwork, self-perform and subcontracted scopes, temporary works, equipment, and scheduling techniques.
- Ability to apply construction principles to solve problems on the job.
- Strong verbal and written communication with supervisors, subcontractors, and project reports.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to prepare clear technical communications for trade contractors, designers, and inspectors.
- Develops and maintains effective partner relationships.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction-related software.
