Job Description

The General Engineer role supports critical facilities at Naval Hospital Beaufort within the DHA network, coordinating engineering projects that keep medical infrastructure safe, compliant, and operational. This position blends project documentation, cross department collaboration, and safety oversight to ensure federal standards are met while sustaining reliable healthcare operations.

Overview

  • Location: Beaufort, SC (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 89,508 - 116,362 per year
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (ABET-accredited) or combination of education and experience
  • Summary: General Engineer position located at Naval Hospital Beaufort, SC. Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation for DoD personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares comprehensive construction packages and documents facility requirements within databases
  • Evaluates full-scope project variables including alteratives
  • Tasks and manages cross-departmental economic analysis requests
  • Reviews layouts and contract modifications for industrial equipment and installation utilities
  • Coordinates project technical data across all milestones with mission personnel
  • Participates in critical safety sessions and formal project planning meetings
  • Evaluates medical facility structures for strict compliance with federal mandates
  • Coordinates, schedules, tracks, and documents survey findings

Requirements

  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes managing engineering projects in a healthcare environment, overseeing regular maintenance schedules of utility assets such as chillers and backup generators, utilizing engineering principles to draft scopes of work and adhering to established timelines; and ensuring facility operations comply with environmental, energy-use, safety, and security standards.
