Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc. (working through AFB International) is hiring a Global Projects Engineer to lead major capital investments across AFB facilities. This onsite role in Saint Charles, MO provides an opportunity to drive safety-focused project execution, strengthen operational readiness, and help new systems perform reliably from commissioning through turnover.

You will initially focus on significant projects at the Aurora, Missouri manufacturing site, guiding the end-to-end lifecycle from planning and governance to construction support, commissioning, startup, closeout, and final documentation.

What you’ll do

  • Own project planning artifacts including scope, estimates, schedules, budgets, business cases, execution plans, and Capital Appropriation Requests.
  • Set up and operate project governance with risk registers, action tracking, change control, reporting, and decision-making practices.
  • Coordinate competing priorities across stakeholders, resources, and external partners across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Provide clear project updates, surface risks and decision needs, and maintain accurate, current project records.
  • Develop design criteria, technical specifications, bid packages, and procurement documents.
  • Review drawings and layouts, P&IDs, electrical documentation, equipment specifications, and contractor submittals.
  • Manage execution through consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers, bidding activities, contract negotiations, construction, field issues, and project changes.
  • Apply engineering judgment to resolve technical and construction challenges.
  • Direct commissioning, startup, training, performance verification, operational readiness, and project turnover.
  • Work with site teams to ensure new equipment and systems integrate safely into operations.
  • Close out projects with punch lists, as-built documentation, manuals, warranties, spare parts information, final cost reporting, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure compliance with AFB standards, applicable codes, OSHA and EHS requirements, food safety expectations, permitting requirements, and site procedures.
  • Identify risks early and coordinate mitigation plans with project stakeholders.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, quality, and operational excellence across every project phase.
  • Use data and root-cause analysis to identify continuous improvement opportunities and balance safety, quality, productivity, reliability, timing, and cost.
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Provide functional leadership across functions, directing consultants, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and other project resources without relying on direct authority.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering and capital project experience in an industrial manufacturing or process environment.
  • Proven experience leading projects through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and closeout.
  • Strong knowledge of scope development, estimating, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, construction, change control, and closeout.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities while maintaining accurate documentation and status reporting.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, layouts, P&IDs, specifications, equipment documentation, and contractor submittals.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing capital projects valued at $1 million or more.
  • Experience in food manufacturing, process manufacturing, or a similar regulated industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of industrial construction, equipment installation, process systems, manufacturing operations, and startup activities.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, PMP certification, or an advanced degree.

Work environment

  • Works across office, manufacturing, construction, and active project environments.
  • Must be able to walk through manufacturing and construction areas, climb stairs or ladders, work around moving equipment, and tolerate dust, noise, and temperature variations while wearing required PPE.
  • Travel between AFB facilities and to vendor or contractor locations is expected.
  • Occasional off-hours support may be required during critical activities such as commissioning or startup.
  • May be based at AFB International’s corporate office in St. Charles, Missouri or at the Aurora, Missouri plant site.
