Internal Audit-Data Analytics, Data Engineer Vice President

This Senior Vice President role within Goldman Sachs Internal Audit combines data analytics and data engineering to create tools that enhance audit testing efficiency and provide clearer insight into the firm's control environment. Based in New York on site, the position emphasizes collaboration with audit teams to advance data-driven approaches across the control landscape.

Responsibilities

• Manage database related activities including data modeling, data engineering, data governance, and entitlement maintenance.
• Gather and manage project-specific requirements and deliver results that aid auditors in sample selection, identifying control gaps, ensuring data source completeness, and validating data integrity through data blessing.
• Develop production‑ready analytical tools to automate repeatable audit processes using visualization platforms such as Tableau, Spotfire or QlikView.
• Perform selected data analysis tasks involving analysis, extraction, transformation, and loading of structured and unstructured data (ETL).
• Conduct data analyses that may be supported by concise technical narratives describing the integrity of automated controls.
• Write data analysis code using languages such as Python, Java, or Slang.
• Identify opportunities for process standardization and implement automation within audit and data analytics applications.
• Execute the embedded Data Analytics strategy developed by Internal Audit management, covering risk assessment, audit planning, reusable tools, and innovative solutions to complex problems.
• Partner with audit teams to identify business risks, facilitate strategic data sourcing, and develop solutions that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of audit testing.
• Build and manage relationships and communications with audit team members.

Requirements

• Experience: 8+ years with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or statistics.
• Technical proficiency: Strong experience with RDBMS and SQL.
• Data processes: Exposure to ETL processes, data engineering, and data governance.
• Data quality: Experience implementing data blessing and data quality measures and entitlement models.
• Programming: Proficiency in Python, Java, or C++.
• Statistics: Foundation in descriptive statistics, data distributions, time series analysis, correlation, and regression, with application to data.
• Communication: Strong teamwork and clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Data Science contribution: Active contributor to the Data Science team and the development of analytics capabilities for Internal Audit.
• Drive: Self-motivated, proactive, and committed to continuous performance improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with advanced data analytics tools and techniques
• Familiarity with text analytics and NLP using Python
• Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and supervised and unsupervised learning, including linear/logistic regression, SVM, random forests, boosting, clustering, and pattern recognition
• Experience with analytic/statistical programs such as SAS, SPSS, and R
