Junior Chemical/Process Engineer
Job Description
Attolas Technologies Inc. is seeking an early-career chemical/process engineer or chemist to design, develop, and operate chemical processes that transform raw materials into high-purity inorganic compounds. This onsite role in Raleigh, NC combines bench-scale work, scale-up planning, safety review, and hands-on troubleshooting in the lab.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute processes that convert raw materials into high-purity inorganic compounds.
- Perform bench-scale synthesis and purification, including precipitation, crystallization, drying, and recovery, then scale work into repeatable batch processes.
- Maintain tight purity specifications through contamination control and rigorous material accounting, with yield tracked at the gram level.
- Work safely with reactive and hazardous materials, including writing SOPs, leading hazard reviews, and managing material compatibility.
- Use analytical methods and partner with outside labs to verify that products meet specification.
- Create process models using mass and energy balances, reaction stoichiometry, and yield calculations.
- Support techno-economic analysis by evaluating unit production cost and identifying key cost drivers.
- Operate laboratory equipment hands-on, including gloveboxes and inert-atmosphere systems, and troubleshoot processes directly.
Requirements
- A degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field, with 0–4 years of experience.
- Hands-on synthesis or lab experience, ideally in inorganic chemistry, along with a strong safety mindset.
- Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics and reaction engineering, with the ability to solve problems from first principles.
- Careful, meticulous laboratory practice and the discipline to keep documentation that others could reproduce.
