Junior Embedded Software Engineer

General Dynamics Mission Systems, Inc. is seeking a Junior Embedded Software Engineer to support mission-critical work within Airborne Systems. The role focuses on embedded software for airborne computers, crypto capabilities used to identify friendly aircraft, and weapon control functions for precision guided weapons. This is an on-site position in Bloomington, Minnesota, working as part of a cross-functional team.

Location: Bloomington, MN (on-site)
Compensation: USD 100,153 - 109,000 per yearly
Experience: Minimum 2 years
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or related STEM field (or Master’s degree)

Role summary

As a member of a cross-functional team, you will contribute to embedded systems that support mission data processing in the cockpit, crypto products for identifying friendly aircraft, and weapon control systems used to enable and manage the launch and control of precision guided weapons.

Responsibilities

• Support cross functional development efforts for airborne computers that process and display mission data in the cockpit, crypto products for identifying friendly aircraft, and weapon control systems enabling launch and control of precision guided weapons.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree, plus 6 months relevant experience.
• Department of Defense Secret security clearance required at time of hire.
• Selected applicants will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
• U.S. citizenship required due to the nature of work performed within company facilities.

Preferred skills and experience

• Knowledge and experience with C in embedded environments
• Experience with bare bone software (no operating system)
• Experience with memory map interfacing
• Experience with communication buses: SPI/QSPI, UART, I2C
• Experience with network protocols: RSTP, VLAN, PTP
• Experience with anti-tamper/security
• Understanding of software development process and software engineering concepts, principles, and theories
• Ability to identify opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation
