Lead AI Engineer

EPAM Systems, Inc. is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to design and deploy production-grade Agentic AI solutions for insurance workflows. The role focuses on end-to-end ownership of the AI lifecycle, including evaluation, monitoring, and continuous performance improvements, in close collaboration with brokers, underwriters, and operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy production-grade Agentic AI solutions that automate complex insurance workflows to reduce turnaround times and improve operational productivity
• Build enterprise-scale AI-powered applications using LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), document processing, information extraction, classification, and agent-based architectures
• Own the AI product lifecycle from ideation and rapid prototyping through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing performance improvement
• Create robust AI evaluation frameworks covering testing, monitoring, performance measurement, and hallucination detection to support production-level reliability
• Partner with brokers, underwriters, and operations teams to identify high-impact AI adoption opportunities and translate business needs into scalable solutions
• Mentor engineers, promote modern AI development best practices, and research emerging technologies to advance the platform’s capabilities

Requirements

• 5 to 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering, AI/ML, or related domains; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong proficiency in Python, with proven ability to build and deliver AI-powered products end to end from concept through production deployment
• Hands-on experience with Large Language Models, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, information extraction, document understanding, classification models, and agentic AI workflow design
• Solid foundation in cloud platforms, Docker containerization, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and observability, and secure data handling in production-grade environments
• Experience with API design, system design, and full-stack application development; working knowledge of TypeScript or Node.js as a complementary skill
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex AI concepts and trade-offs to non-technical business stakeholders

Compensation and Location

• Location: New York, NY (onsite)
• Salary range: USD 145,000 - 180,000 per year (base salary)
• Compensation within the range may vary based on geographic location, experience, credentials, education, training, demand for the role, and overall business and labor market considerations
