Lead Hardware Engineer
Job Description
General Dynamics Mission Systems, Inc. is seeking an experienced Lead Hardware Engineer to guide electrical hardware development in a defense environment. In this onsite role in Pittsfield, MA, you will lead engineers supporting multiple electrical subsystems and components from early concept through verification, qualification testing, integration, and installation.
You will own key electrical hardware design activities, including architecture and requirements, component selection for PCB, FPGA, and network infrastructure, and cross-discipline integration. The work is delivered within schedule and budget constraints, using an iterative, risk-based approach to build secure, high-performance technical solutions.
What you will do
- Direct multiple electrical subsystems and components from concept to final installation for a program introducing new, innovative capabilities into an existing system.
- Lead architecture and requirements discussions, then drive hardware component selection and design, including PCB, FPGA, and network infrastructure components.
- Oversee design verification, qualification testing, and full integration across electrical, systems, and mechanical disciplines.
- Operate within schedule and budget constraints.
- Support an iterative, risk-based approach to secure, high-performance solutions through effective communication with other disciplines and program management.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus minimum 8 years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree plus minimum 6 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance within a reasonable amount of time after hire.
- Selected applicants will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- Due to work performed within company facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, including demonstrated success leading a team of 5-7 engineers across complex, concurrent electrical hardware projects.

- Foundational understanding of networking and cybersecurity principles as they relate to hardware, including familiarity with encryption algorithms, secure boot, and trusted platform architectures (preferred).
- Ability to identify opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation.
Compensation and workplace
- Salary: USD 142,696 - 158,303 per year
