As a hands-on leader, you will own multi-system delivery, set technical direction, and build real-time, event-driven platforms at scale across edge, cloud, and streaming components.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate real-time event driven systems that ingest data from edge devices and process it at scale
- Implement backend services and streaming pipelines with Java and Apache Flink to convert data into reliable events, including guest media handling and identity reconciliation
- Architect and run production systems on AWS with emphasis on scalability, cost efficiency, observability, and fault tolerance
- Guide end-to-end delivery across multiple systems, balancing domain objectives, technical constraints, and priorities to ship meaningful features
- Drive technical decisions, shape system design, and own key components of the platform
- Create clear, versioned event schemas and APIs for downstream consumers and external integrations
- Operate as an autonomous technical liaison and team representative
- Mentor junior engineers and present to executive audiences
- Contribute to estimation and planning of complex scalable projects
- This role may require occasional travel, estimated at 10 to 15 percent
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including work on distributed, production systems
- At least 3 years of cross-team technical leadership with end-to-end ownership of multi-service initiatives and driving scalable architecture decisions
- Leads through technical influence rather than direct people management
- Expertise building real-time or streaming data pipelines, including event ingestion, aggregation, windowing, and emission
- Experience with AWS IoT Core, Kinesis, Kafka, and MQTT
- Expert-level proficiency in Java
- Hands-on experience with AWS services such as ECS, EKS, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch, and time-series databases like Timestream or InfluxDB
- Strong understanding of event-driven architecture, schema evolution, and downstream consumer integration
- Proven ability to design and deliver observable, resilient, and scalable systems
- Commitment to staying current with emerging technologies to inform recommendations
