A Machine Learning Engineer role on Liftoff's Revenue Engine team focused on building models and production systems to balance advertiser performance with business goals.

Responsibilities

Develop and deploy statistical models and scalable production systems that align advertiser outcomes with Liftoff's business objectives.
Tune optimization parameters, monitor internal competition, and model changing environments.
Plan and execute experiments to validate core theories shaping the mobile ad tech economy.
Build applications for advertiser budget retention and growth, margin optimization, and bidding innovations.
Collaborate with a diverse, high-caliber engineering team and cross-functional partners across Operations and GTM.
Communicate statistical and machine learning concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Contribute to an engineering excellence culture through modern tooling, risk-based testing, explainable systems, and rigorous design/code reviews.

Requirements

PhD in computer science, machine learning, economics, or a related field.
Experience applying economics or machine learning to large-scale problems in industry.
Strong software engineering and coding abilities.
Excellent communication and collaboration within teams.
Experience in ad tech is a strong plus.

About the Revenue Engine Team

The Revenue Engine group explores the fundamental economics of the mobile ad tech marketplace, including demand elasticity and competition effects. The team combines machine learning engineers, software engineers, and data analysts to validate theories via experiments and analyses, then translate findings into production systems that improve outcomes for Liftoff and its advertisers.

Remote-friendly role with a preference for California
Liftoff operates as a remote-first company with US hubs in Redwood City, Los Angeles, and New York City

Travel Expectations

Occasional in-person team gatherings, including project meetings, regional meetups, and company events
Attendance at least once per quarter is expected to support collaboration and teamwork

Compensation

Liftoff provides a comprehensive compensation package, including equity and country-based health benefits. Base pay varies by location and experience.

SF Bay Area, Los Angeles/Orange County, NYC, Seattle: $235,000-$275,000
All other cities within approved states: $215,000-$255,000
