Job Description

Layup Parts is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer (onsite in Huntington Beach, CA) to build and deploy custom models using internal manufacturing and design datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Train and iterate on custom machine learning models using Layup Parts internal manufacturing and design data
  • Develop models that estimate cost and predict design complexity or manufacturing difficulty from part geometry
  • Create models that generate or assist in generating new designs using historical design data
  • Build data pipelines to extract structured data from engineering documents and drawings (for example: specs, dimensions, and material callouts)
  • Select and evaluate modeling approaches for geometric, spatial, and structured data, prioritizing methods that fit non-text problem types
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to source, clean, and label internal datasets
  • Own model performance end-to-end, including the data pipeline, training, evaluation, and deployment into internal tools
  • Continuously identify new opportunities to improve design, estimation, or manufacturing workflows with custom ML

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience training custom models beyond basic labeling or simple fine-tuning workflows
  • At least advanced object detection experience; data classification experience is a plus
  • Geometry-based modeling experience is highly preferred
  • Experience working with large, parameter-rich datasets
  • Best fit profile: background in structured, spatial, or geometric data problems rather than natural language or LLM-centric work

Bonus Points

  • Experience training geometry-specific models
  • CAD experience
  • Manufacturing experience

Benefits

  • Full Benefits Package: medical, dental, and vision; short- and long-term disability; company-paid life insurance
  • Equity option grants
  • 401k plan
  • Paid time off: unlimited PTO plus 9 federal holidays

Compensation

  • USD 120,000 - 185,000 per year

ITAR Requirements

  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or national, a U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), a Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or an Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158
