Job Description
Join OpenAI’s Monetization group in a greenfield environment, where cross-functional teams move quickly from prototyping and experimentation to iterative deployment. The team’s mission is to build user-first, privacy-preserving monetization products, including next-generation ads experiences, to strengthen user trust, unlock economic opportunity, and support OpenAI’s long-term innovation.
This role supports the broader effort to translate research breakthroughs into production-ready systems that help OpenAI scale access to intelligence responsibly.
What you’ll do
- Innovate and deploy: design and deploy advanced machine learning models to solve real-world problems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners: work with researchers, software engineers, and product managers to understand complex business challenges and deliver AI-powered solutions.
- Optimize and scale: implement scalable data pipelines with an emphasis on accuracy and ensure model solutions are production-ready.
- Learn and lead: stay current with the latest developments in machine learning and AI; participate in code reviews, share knowledge, and lead by example to maintain high-quality engineering practices.
- Monitor deployed models: monitor and maintain models in production to ensure they continue delivering value.
What you bring
- Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in deep learning and transformers models.
- Proficiency with frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
- Plus: experience with search relevance, ads ranking, or LLMs.
- Familiarity with training and fine-tuning large language models, including distillation, supervised fine-tuning, and policy optimization.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive approach.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to move fast in an environment where priorities may be loosely defined and may shift.
- Comfort owning problems end-to-end, including picking up missing knowledge to get the job done.

Compensation and benefits
$381,000 - $555,000 per year + offers equity
