Mechanical Engineer - Fire Protection

This permanent Mechanical Engineer role supports building systems design and construction services for industrial, life sciences, institutional, and commercial facilities. The position focuses on plumbing and fire protection engineering, including code-compliant system design, Revit-based BIM documentation, and coordination across multiple engineering disciplines.

Role Overview

As a Mechanical Engineer (Plumbing & Fire Protection), you will provide engineering design for domestic water, plumbing systems, and fire protection components. You will also contribute to construction-phase activities and engineering studies while managing deliverables across concurrent projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop building systems design for industrial, life sciences, institutional, and commercial facilities.
• Design domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, storm drainage, natural gas, and related plumbing systems, including sizing calculations and equipment selection.
• Design sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump systems in accordance with NFPA standards and local code requirements.
• Create construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules, using a Revit-based BIM workflow.
• Survey existing facilities to evaluate the condition and capacity of in-place plumbing and fire protection systems.
• Coordinate system routing and interfaces with architectural, structural, HVAC, and electrical disciplines.
• Provide construction phase support, including shop drawing and submittal review, RFI responses, and coordination with vendors and contractors.
• Prepare engineering studies and recommendations while managing tasks against budget and schedule across concurrent projects.

Required Qualifications

• Education: BS Mechanical, Architectural, or related Engineering degree
• Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience in building systems or MEP consulting design
• Certification: EIT certification
• Hands-on design experience with plumbing and/or fire protection systems
• Experience with Revit and AutoCAD
• Working knowledge of building and plumbing codes, including NFPA 13 and NFPA 14

Preferred Qualifications

• PE license a plus
• Fire protection hydraulic calculation experience a plus
