Job Description

Synerfac Technical Staffing is recruiting a Mechanical Piping Engineer to support an engineering consulting team working on industrial and process engineering projects across the Pittsburgh and Wyomissing, PA areas. This hybrid role is based in Coraopolis, PA and centers on mechanical piping design, engineering calculations, and coordinated 3D modeling and documentation.

The position focuses on building mechanical piping systems for industrial facilities, developing construction-ready deliverables, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support project deadlines and budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical piping systems for industrial and process facilities.
  • Create piping layouts for applications including process water, hydraulic fluid, compressed air, and other industrial uses.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as pipe sizing, flow rates, pressure drops, pump head, and equipment connection requirements.
  • Prepare piping plans, sections, details, schematics, and construction documentation.
  • Create and modify 3D piping models using Autodesk Revit.
  • Use Revit Fabrication Parts, custom families, system parameters, and view filters to build coordinated piping models.
  • Prepare, review, and modify Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Select and incorporate suitable piping materials, fittings, valves, accessories, and equipment connections.
  • Coordinate piping layouts with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical systems.
  • Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and equipment submittals to identify potential design conflicts.
  • Conduct onsite field surveys to evaluate existing mechanical and piping systems.
  • Participate in engineering coordination meetings and construction-phase activities.
  • Respond to RFIs and review piping-related contractor submittals.
  • Support quality-control reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness of engineering calculations, Revit models, and construction documents.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to meet project deadlines and budgets.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in mechanical piping design or industrial/process piping systems.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and 3D piping modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with Revit Fabrication Parts, custom families, system parameters, and view filters.
  • Experience producing engineering models and construction documentation through schematic design, design development, and construction document phases.
  • Strong understanding of piping materials, fittings, valves, equipment connections, and applicable engineering codes.
  • Ability to create, revise, and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Experience coordinating piping systems with other engineering disciplines.
  • Strong technical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
