Job Description

Weatherford is seeking an MPD Project Engineer II in Houston, TX to design and provide field support for managed pressure drilling operations, conduct hydraulic simulations, and develop procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design and field support for MPD operations, leveraging hydraulic simulations and procedural expertise.
  • Collaborate with the Operator’s disciplines, MPD crew, third‑party well systems, and regulatory bodies to develop safe, efficient MPD well plans.
  • Support operations from an office or field location using the Weatherford MPD product suite (Victus automated MPD system, Pressure Pro MPD system, Rotating Control Devices, Riser Gas Handling system, Multiphase injection and multiphase returns/flow drilling managed pressure control) for onshore and offshore operations.
  • Plan and support MPD operations by conducting engineering simulations to generate steady‑state and transient ECD/ESD profiles across MPD and drilling parameters (SBP, flow rate, mud specs, rpm, ROP, etc.) and well conditions (limits, temperature, compressibility, rpm, cuttings load effects).
  • Assist with surge and swab analyses and trip schedules for drilling BHA and casing strings.
  • Perform transient influx tolerance simulations, MPD Matrix, and IME workstreams.
  • Address pill placement and fullovers considerations as part of MPD planning.
  • Assist with surface line and equipment frictional pressure loss calculations and MGS flow capacity assessments.
  • Draft MPD operating procedures and contingency plans.
  • Create piping and instrumentation diagrams and analyze well parameters to identify improvements and eliminate inefficiencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Petroleum Engineering or related field plus 5 years of progressive field experience in deepwater operations, including at least 3 years of MPD support; or Master’s degree or equivalent with 3 years of field experience in deepwater operations, including at least 1 year of MPD support, in lieu of the bachelor’s and 5 years.
  • Experience with single‑ and multi‑phase hydraulic simulators and both steady‑state and transient models.
  • Mud logging and data analysis experience.
  • MPD well planning software proficiency.
  • Drilling hydraulics simulator software proficiency.
  • Experience writing and executing MPD procedures for deepwater drilling operations.
  • Hands‑on experience with influx tolerance simulations (transient), MPD matrix, and IME.
  • CBHP well displacement simulation calculations.
  • Ability to generate surge and swab simulations and tripping schedules.
  • Hole cleaning analysis experience.
  • Experience managing MPC schedules (Managing Pressure Cementing).
  • Ability to generate choke ramp tables.
  • Surface line and equipment frictional pressure loss calculations.
