Job Description

Riverside Hospital Services is looking for a Network Security Engineer I to design, implement, and maintain robust network security solutions for a healthcare environment. This onsite role in Newport News, VA supports daily operational needs and strategic security projects, reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer. You’ll help strengthen protections across network and endpoints while working to maximize uptime for critical security infrastructure.

Salary: $85,800 - $117,975 per year (actual pay is determined based on job-related factors including relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs).

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct and analyze vulnerability scans across hosts and network environments.
  • Perform network security threat/impact assessments to evaluate risk and prioritize action.
  • Oversee host-based security across the Health System, including antivirus, HIPS, data loss prevention, and rogue system detection.
  • Respond to malware reports and help implement protective and anti-malware measures.
  • Enforce computer and network security processes to safeguard data and systems.
  • Partner with management, technical staff, and end-users to define requirements for new systems and security infrastructure development.
  • Ensure maximum uptime for firewalls, endpoint protection, and VPNs.
  • Design highly secure infrastructure aimed at delivering maximum uptime and performance.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • 3-4 years working knowledge of technical security solutions, including firewalls, NIDS, HIDS, SIEM, endpoint protection, email security, and MFA (Required)
  • 3-4 years enforcing security policies, procedures, and plans to safeguard data and systems from cyber attacks (Required)
  • CompTIA Security+ (Required)
  • CompTIA Network+ (Required)
  • CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+) (Required)
  • Call Rotation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (Preferred)
  • 1 year Azure and/or AWS cloud experience (Preferred)
  • 2 years broad technical security knowledge of networking and Windows and Linux operating systems (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of internet security best practices
  • GIAC Information Security Fundamentals (GISF) (Preferred)
  • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) (Preferred)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (Preferred)

Location: Newport News, VA (onsite). This position is not eligible for remote work.
