NEXCOM Senior Systems Design Engineer
Job Description
Senior Systems Design Engineer for Peraton's NEXCOM program leads MBSE-driven design and deployment of large-scale radio network infrastructure across FAA air traffic control centers, with onsite work in Des Moines, WA.
Responsibilities
- Plan expansive radio network deployments, including site surveys, network configurations, rack layouts, and cable routing.
- Produce site installation packages with detailed drawings, bill of materials, installation steps, and schematics to enable radio equipment deployment.
- Develop system design packages that guide site preparation, procurement, and installation activities.
- Assist in creating site engineering packages required for radio equipment installations.
- Define requirements and perform system decomposition to shape architecture.
- Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques to model and document the system.
- Perform trade studies to inform engineering decisions and optimize system design.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to project teams and junior engineers.
- Lead engineering discussions, working groups, and design reviews with diverse technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with field engineering, deployment teams, and program leadership to ensure design alignment with operational requirements.
- Ensure designs comply with program standards, engineering best practices, and technical requirements.
Requirements
- Education and experience combinations: PhD with 3+ years; MS with 6+ years; BS with 8+ years; AS with 10+ years; or 12+ years in lieu of a degree.
- US Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain a public trust clearance.
- Experience with systems engineering processes, including requirements definition, system decomposition, and architecture development.
- Experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles.
- Ability to perform engineering trade studies and technical evaluations.
- Experience providing technical leadership or mentorship within engineering teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to support technical working groups and design reviews.

Details
- Target Salary Range: $86,000 - $138,000 per year. Salary is determined by factors including the scope of responsibilities, candidate experience, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, geographic location, and contract considerations. Depending on the position, overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus may apply.
