Job Description

Principal Systems/Software Engineer provides technical leadership for end-to-end development of core software modules across cloud-native and on-premises security management components.

Responsibilities

  • Own multiple core software modules end-to-end for the product, including solving technical challenges in fast-paced development and debugging environments.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow junior engineering talent within the team.
  • Develop organization-wide software architecture and development methodologies across multiple platforms and organizations within the Global Business Unit.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies, innovations, and outsourced development partner relationships to align with technology roadmap and business value.
  • Create plans to integrate and update technologies into the agreed architecture.
  • Review and evaluate designs and project activities against development guidelines and standards; provide actionable feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
  • Apply domain expertise and business acumen to influence decisions made by technical leadership, outsourced development partners, and relevant industry standards groups.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff to model strong software systems design and development innovation and excellence.

Requirements

  • Experience building cloud products with a microservices architecture.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud applications and technologies.
  • Excellent analytical skills, problem solving, and software debugging experience.
  • Experience designing and developing software system design tools and languages.
  • Experience with overall architecture for software systems supporting products and solutions.
  • Ability to design and integrate software systems running on multiple platform types into a unified architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-geography, globally distributed engineering teams, collaborating across time zones and cultures.
  • Drive high-quality delivery by writing robust unit tests, improving code coverage via automation, validating functionality, and documenting and executing functional test cases prior to QA handoff.
  • Extensive hands-on experience across several listed technology areas, with the ability to quickly adapt to adjacent domains.
  • History of innovation with multiple patents or deployed solutions in software design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including mastery of English and the local language.
  • Ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options with business unit and executive levels.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Typically 10+ years of experience.

Role Overview

  • Security Director Cloud (SD Cloud): a cloud-native Security Management Platform delivering centralized management, monitoring, policy administration, and automation for Juniper SRX Firewalls, vSRX, Secure Edge, and hybrid cloud security environments.
  • Enables consistent management of security policies across on-premises, cloud, and remote locations through a single web interface.
  • Positions SD Cloud as HPE/Juniper management portal for SASE, supporting unified policy management, Zero Trust, Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP), threat visibility, analytics, automation, and API-driven integrations.
  • Security Director (On-Prem): on-premises version of the same security management platform.
  • Centrally manages SRX and vSRX firewalls, providing policy lifecycle management, monitoring, configuration, logging, and automation via a web-based interface.
  • Successor to Junos Space Security Director with similar operational capabilities for organizations requiring local deployment.

  • Go (1.24+)
  • Java (Spring Boot / Spring Framework, Jakarta EE)
  • PostgreSQL (or equivalent DB) and Elastic Search
  • gRPC, Protocol buffers, REST, OpenAPI/Swagger

Cloud Technologies

  • Apache Kafka (Confluent, Sarama) and Redis-based queues
  • Docker, Kubernetes, Kubernetes client libraries
  • Prometheus, distributed tracing, structured logging (SLF4J/Logback)
  • Load balancer like Ambassador (or equivalent)

Other Technologies

  • Bazel, Maven, Helm
  • OAuth2, SAML, JWT
  • Jenkins CI/CD

Nice to Have

  • Security domain experience.
  • Experience in Network Management Systems development.
  • Exposure to building software platforms consumed by applications.

Hybrid Work Requirement

  • Hybrid role with an average requirement to work 2 days per week from an HPE office.
