Location: Camden, NJ, with hybrid work opportunities. Holtec is seeking a Probabilistic Risk Engineer II in its PSA discipline to develop PRA models and supporting analyses for the SMR-300 project, driving risk-informed design and licensing activities. This role collaborates with the design team to translate PSA insights into deliverables and ensure quality across all work products.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain PRA logic models and supporting thermal-hydraulic analyses to quantify risk and support design and licensing activities.
  • Build Level 1 and Level 2 PRA models for internal and external events, spanning full power and low power / shutdown operating modes.
  • Specialize in thermal-hydraulic analysis by supporting RELAP5-3D and MELCOR modeling to simulate core and containment response for severe accident scenarios that inform PRA quantifications.
  • Develop event trees and fault trees to quantify key design risk metrics such as core damage frequency and large release frequency.
  • Maintain and update PSA models as the SMR-300 design evolves.
  • Apply PSA results to support risk-informed programs, including RTNSS, the Design Reliability Assurance Program, and 10 CFR 50.69 risk-informed categorization and treatment of SSCs.
  • Interface with the design team to communicate PSA insights and help implement them in design and licensing activities.
  • Ensure consistency and quality across all PSA deliverables.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Familiarity with the thermal-hydraulic behavior of light water reactors.
  • Proficiency with at least one industry code such as CAFTA, SAPHIRE, RiskSpectrum, RELAP5-3D, or MELCOR.
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in probabilistic risk assessment and/or thermal-hydraulic safety analysis for nuclear facilities.
  • Familiarity with ASME/ANS PRA standards and NRC or IAEA risk guidance.
  • Ability to interpret results and clearly communicate risk insights to technical audiences.
  • Excellent technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.
