Job Description

The Product Data Engineer Technician III role at Mouser Electronics supports the research, normalization, and governance of product technical data, serving as a subject matter expert (SME) within established product areas. This onsite position in Mansfield, TX focuses on accurate classification and attribution of component data through PIM and related tools, with continued emphasis on process improvement and component life cycle knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical data research, assessment, and acquisition using the Internet, supplier websites, search engines, spreadsheets, and internal databases.
  • Normalize collected data into a consistent format governed by established Tech Data procedures.
  • Collaborate and coordinate the classification, collection, implementation, and maintenance of product technical data through the Product Information Management (PIM) system and Data Quality Analyst tools.
  • Plan, develop, and manage hierarchies for assigned product categories based on product type and/or technology using technical processes.
  • Ensure collected data remains relevant for sourcing products in all regions worldwide.
  • Develop a basic Mouser Product Data acumen and apply it to each classification and attribution task.
  • Use an understanding of the classification hierarchy to identify misclassified products and reclassify them into the correct template.
  • Evaluate template attributes for relevance against the template taxonomy and recommend changes that benefit customers.
  • Review product data as presented on Mouser.com and recommend normalization, sorting, and parametric attribute order improvements to enhance customer product sourcing.
  • Maintain open and timely communications with interested parties, stakeholders, and teams, documenting work as needed to support prioritization and easy information access.
  • Represent the company professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Serve as an SME within established product areas and contribute to process solutions through functional design.
  • Learn new software applications quickly, adapt to project-related process changes, and communicate benefits and results to others.
  • Stay aware of emerging technologies in the electronic component field.
  • Identify business terms and parametric definitions, including values for a wide range of electronic components.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of PCN (Product Change Notices) and component life cycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline. In lieu of a degree, 6 years of relevant work experience is desired, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 4+ years Electronic Component experience required; for internal candidates, experience may be a combination of internal and external experience.
  • Skill evaluation: Behavioral (80%).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and work with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently or in teams with a collaborative interpersonal style.
  • Ability to set and track goals, use sound judgment to identify issues, and escalate when appropriate.
  • Ability to research data for long periods of time.
  • Strong analytical, technical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and multi-tasking ability.
  • Demonstrated ability reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical documentation including Technical Data Sheets, Product Guides, scientific and technical journals, and related engineering documents.
  • Professional ability to interface directly with internal business contacts and represent the business unit.
  • PC experience in a Microsoft Windows environment, with proficiency in internet email and Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and related platforms.
  • Electronic Design, Systems Design, Test Engineering, or Electronic Component experience required.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and independent judgments.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline.

Location and Work Setup

Mansfield, TX (onsite).
