Product Development Engineer, Product Operations
Job Description
AMD is seeking a Product Development Engineer, Product Operations to coordinate development and manufacturing launch of datacenter hardware from design through high-volume production.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering Design, Materials, Rack/Server Systems Program Management, Manufacturing, Test, and Quality to align design, planning, production, and quality goals across the product development lifecycle.
- Review design specifications, CAD drawings, and engineering documentation to confirm compliance with design criteria, industry standards, and manufacturing capability.
- Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews to optimize products for efficient, high-quality production.
- Develop and maintain project schedules and implementation readiness timelines to support on-time new product introductions.
- Share project status and readiness milestones with customer program management teams and internal stakeholders.
- Drive NPI by facilitating and leading cross-functional problem-solving meetings spanning Design, Manufacturing, Test, and Quality Engineering.
- Identify and resolve design or production issues to support smooth product launch and ramp-up.
- Establish and run regular development review meetings to deepen technical alignment and coordinate design changes.
- Provide guidance and feedback during design reviews to ensure feasibility with manufacturing processes and capabilities.
- Oversee first article builds and First Article Inspections (FAI) for new products.
- Document FAI requirements, analyze initial build outcomes, and implement improvements to validate design and manufacturing readiness.
- Coordinate engineering rework and change orders during the transition to volume production.
- Manage Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes to incorporate design updates or fixes while minimizing production schedule impact.
- Validate and approve production assembly instructions, including labeling and work instructions, for manufacturing clarity and accuracy.
- Ensure assembly processes are documented and optimized for quality and efficiency.
- Confirm final products meet customer specifications and quality standards.
- Partner with quality and production teams to ensure correct builds and delivery on schedule, supporting ramp-up of new server and rack systems into high-volume production.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience guiding products from concept through development and production.
- Knowledge of physical design (PD) methodologies for hardware or systems.
- Familiarity with server architectures or rack-level hardware systems and their components.
- Ability to conduct DFM reviews and optimize designs for efficient manufacturing.
- Experience managing Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes and implementing design updates in a production environment.
- Understanding of printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) manufacturing processes and best practices.
- Strong documentation skills, including creating and maintaining comprehensive engineering documentation and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Proven ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications to ensure design accuracy and manufacturability.
- Hands-on manufacturing or factory experience, ideally in fast-paced, dynamic NPI settings, with a track record of successfully launching new hardware products.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including leading meetings, coordinating across multiple teams, and driving projects to timely completion.
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant industry experience in product development engineering or a closely related hardware engineering role working with design and manufacturing processes for complex hardware products (datacenter, servers, or similar).
Preferred Experience

Academic Credentials
- Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field required.
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering) preferred.
