Product Operations Engineer
Job Description
Join the team building reliable operations systems for the deployed Sentry fleet across Air Defense and Counter-Intrusion.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain deep technical understanding of the Sentry system, including hardware and software, and act as product operations SME for Sentry across both business lines
- Collaborate with product engineering to design, deploy, and continuously improve the system that runs RCCA (root cause corrective action) cycles on fielded Sentry towers, from failure capture through corrective action deployment
- Convert fleet failure data, field feedback, and reliability trends into actionable product improvement signals for engineering, informing next generation Sentry hardware and software design
- Apply and mature FRACAS (failure reporting, analysis, and corrective action) practice for Sentry, including how failures are classified, tracked, and closed so reliability gains are measurable
- Create and deploy uptime reporting that measures and facilitates customer capability availability, translating telemetry into fleet health metrics for program, product, and leadership stakeholders
- Build and improve observability tooling in partnership with hardware and software engineering so monitoring coverage keeps pace with new Sentry variants and site deployments
- Own and continuously improve the Sentry knowledge base for field operations to keep operational knowledge accurate, codified, and usable for any on call support level
- Expand self service resources including runbooks, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides for field and deployment teams to resolve issues at the point of need
- Lead iterative design cycles across product operations, engineering, and deployment functions, aligning on what to change and carrying improvements through implementation
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in product operations, technical support, site reliability, or a comparable technical operations role supporting deployed hardware and software systems, with demonstrated progression in scope and ownership
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or another relevant technical field, or equivalent hands-on technical experience (military, industrial, or field support)
- Technical depth in robotics, mechatronics, or complex electromechanical systems, with ability to reason across hardware, software, and networking boundaries
- Demonstrated experience driving RCCA to closure on complex systems, including how failures are captured, classified, and verified as resolved
- Experience leading iterative design or improvement cycles across multiple engineering and operations teams, carrying change from problem statement through implementation
- Proficiency building monitoring queries, dashboards, and alerting configurations using observability platforms such as Datadog, Grafana, or similar tooling
- Experience validating and verifying software changes on distributed or fielded systems, including rollout, verification, and rollback considerations
- Scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash) with a track record of building tooling that improves operational efficiency
- Fluency with development and issue tracking tooling such as Git and Jira
- Demonstrated ability to author clear, thorough technical documentation, including runbooks, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides for technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to coordinate technical and non-technical efforts across product, engineering, deployment, and sustainment functions across more than one program or customer at a time
- Proven ability to work independently, identify what needs to be built, and deliver without close direction
- Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
