Project Engineer - Mechanical & Process Piping Systems
Job Description
Charter Mechanical is seeking a full-time, on-site Project Engineer to support mechanical and process piping construction projects from pre-construction through closeout. This position reports to experienced Project Managers and is designed for recent graduates and early-career professionals, with equivalent industry experience considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare project estimates, proposals, and budgets
- Support material procurement, purchasing, and tracking
- Track and report labor productivity
- Develop and maintain project schedules
- Manage contract documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project logs
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and related technical documentation
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, clients, and internal project teams
- Support cost tracking, forecasting, and change management activities
- Participate in site walks and field coordination
- Collaborate with Superintendents and Foremen to resolve field issues
- Assist with project safety initiatives and maintain related compliance documentation
- Provide information and resources needed to support efficient field installation
- Contribute to continuous improvement of project delivery processes and execution strategies
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field
- Equivalent construction, engineering, or project coordination experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
- Understanding of project planning, scheduling, and cost control principles
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Commitment to safety and understanding of construction safety standards and regulations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with project management, scheduling, BIM, CAD, Bluebeam, or related construction software
- Knowledge of mechanical construction, HVAC, plumbing, or process piping systems
- Previous experience supporting commercial, industrial, manufacturing, semiconductor, or process piping projects
