Security Data Engineer
Job Description
As a Security Data Engineer, you will help Anthropic maintain security data systems that support its data center footprint. The role focuses on component-level hardware inventory, chain of custody, custody workflows, continuous control monitoring, and posture calculations, using data pipelines and automation to verify custody, access, and evidence.
What You’ll Own
- Component-level records describing what hardware exists, where it is located, and who has handled it, including the data model, pipelines that join inventory and custody events from multiple source systems, change history for every record, and tamper-evident storage.
- Data tools and agents used to validate the system, including reconciliation workflows, audit evidence exports, and custody checks.
- Workflows and software deployed at sites and hosts to capture custody events as they occur (receipt, move, data wipe, decommission) while enforcing authorization to record those events.
- Pipelines that convert check outcomes, assessment results, and findings into per-control and per-site measures over time aligned to the compliance frameworks used internally and with partners, including posture calculations that determine what each site is cleared to run.
- Coverage monitoring, reconciliation against upstream sources, and alerts for silent or drifting feeds so missing or incorrect records are detected the same day, along with retention and access controls for the custody and evidence records.
- Schema and interface agreements with engineers operating the security monitoring platform, plus query surfaces and reports used by the team, site leads, and leadership.
Core Responsibilities
You will design and run production-grade data systems and ensure data correctness across both centralized and distributed environments. This includes building pipelines for change data capture and batch or streaming processing, integrating with systems you do not control, and delivering tools that reduce review effort when current processes become costly.
Required Qualifications
- Experience designing and operating production data systems, including relational schemas, change data capture, batch or streaming pipelines, and reliability practices such as coverage measurement, reconciliation against sources, and alerting for silence.
- Experience integrating with external systems (inventory tools, ticketing systems, vendor APIs) and modeling data so it remains usable beyond any single source system.
- Experience shipping software that operates outside a central service, such as host agents, site-local services, or edge collectors, while maintaining correctness in the field; or experience producing metrics that teams use and defend when challenged.
- Hands-on experience working with data about physical assets or security controls, such as hardware fleets, data center or supply chain inventory, asset custody, or security and compliance evidence data.
- Experience reading and reviewing other people’s code and building with AI coding agents using Git and code review.
- Ability to own a domain end to end, setting approach, designing, building with dependent teams and vendors, and operating it as a daily-use system.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one general-purpose programming language.
Technologies
- SQL
- Git
- Change data capture
- Batch or streaming pipelines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with asset management, supply chain, or warehouse systems where serialized tracking and custody transfer are core problems.
- Experience building continuous control monitoring or metrics for security or compliance programs, or producing evidence accepted by assessors (examples include NIST SP 800-53, ISO 27001, SOC 2).
- Experience with risk or posture scoring that combines control results, findings, and other evidence into decision-ready measures.
- Familiarity with data center hardware lifecycle from receipt to decommission, and experience dealing with sites and parties outside your direct control (colocation, cloud or GPU cloud operators, hardware manufacturers, logistics providers).
- Experience running software across many hosts or remote sites with versioned rollout and the ability to confirm each copy is still reporting.
- Experience building AI agents or automation to replace recurring manual work.
