Security Engineer
Job Description
Build security for health technology on Apple’s Health Software team. This onsite role in San Diego, CA focuses on protecting the systems that help power Apple health features, support health research tools, and strengthen the ecosystem that handles research participant data. You will help ensure security controls are implemented correctly through testing, code auditing, threat modeling, and security automation, while advising teams on secure design for new Health-related work.
Responsibilities
- Run manual application security tests and audit source code to support releases
- Design and execute security testing plans that validate security controls are implemented effectively
- Conduct threat modeling for new features and research tools
- Review architecture and design documents to identify security risks and recommend mitigations
- Develop and maintain security tooling and automation to improve the platform’s security posture
- Provide security guidance and consultation for new projects, features, and changes to Health-related efforts
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in security engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Extensive knowledge of security principles, technologies, and best practices across multiple domains, including cloud, network, application, and data security
- Experience with threat modeling, vulnerability management, incident response, and security automation
- Strong understanding of security risks and challenges in large-scale, complex systems and datasets
- Background building scalable software systems and platforms
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly communicate security concerns to mixed audiences
- Background in web application development and/or code auditing
- Experience with security testing and review of medical or health related applications
- Experience with multi-cloud platform applications
- Demonstrated contributions to the security community (for example, publications, presentations, or open-source projects)
Pay & Benefits
Base pay range: USD $175,000 - $308,500 per year.
Base pay depends on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if they voluntarily participate in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Apple benefit, compensation, and employee stock programs are subject to eligibility requirements and other terms of the applicable plan or program.
