Senior AI Engineer

Klaviyo's Customer Agent team is hiring a Senior AI Engineer for an onsite role in Boston. This position centers on designing and building scalable backend systems and AI agent solutions, with collaboration across product managers, ML engineers, and data scientists to power production AI models and agent capabilities at scale. The role offers a compensation range of USD 148,000 to 222,000 per year, and the opportunity to contribute to high-impact, customer-focused technology.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement backend systems that scale our AI solutions for 167K+ customers.
• Build robust data collection and processing pipelines to train and run machine learning models.
• Develop reliable services that serve AI models in production environments.
• Advance our agentic architecture to make AI agents more autonomous and performant.
• Foster a culture of ownership, experimentation, and customer-centric product thinking.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on backend systems and distributed architectures.
• Hands-on experience deploying generative and agentic AI applications in production, with expertise in prompt engineering, few-shot learning, fine-tuning, and evaluation.
• Proven track record as a backend engineer building scalable, distributed systems that support AI agent capabilities.
• Proficiency in Python and modern backend frameworks (FastAPI; Django preferred).
• Experience creating human and automated evaluations to ensure high AI model quality.
• Strong skills with big data tools such as Apache Spark and Hadoop.
• Deep experience with asynchronous processing and distributed task queues (Celery, Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ, Redis).
• Solid understanding of database technologies and ORMs (SQLAlchemy, Alembic).
• Comfort with cloud-native architectures (AWS) and container orchestration (Kubernetes); ability to manage infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to design and build robust APIs with a high level of autonomy and problem-solving initiative in a fast-moving environment.
• Curiosity-driven learner who stays current with rapid advances in the field.
• Excellent collaboration with product managers and customers to shape solutions.
