AI Engineer
Job Description
Own end-to-end AI development, from architecture to production agents, for an AI operating system that automates workflows across the business.
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the AI roadmap and architecture end to end
- Find, prioritize, and deliver high-leverage AI use cases across sales, operations, procurement, finance, and the warehouse
- Translate current AI tool capabilities into concrete, shippable projects
- Design and maintain the core AI architecture (the company’s AI operating system), including how models, orchestration tools, and data stores connect
- Decide where data should live and how it flows between AI tools and business systems such as ERP, CRM, WMS, and customer support platforms
- Evaluate and evolve the orchestration layer as needs grow, currently using Make.com, with consideration for n8n, Boomi, or MuleSoft
- Build, deploy, and maintain AI agents that automate real workflows, including quoting, customer service, procurement, routing, reporting, and more
- Pair large language models such as Claude and ChatGPT as reasoning engines with orchestration tools and custom code to create reliable, production-grade agents
- Write and ship production code using Python, APIs, FastAPI, and similar technologies, leveraging AI coding tools to improve speed and output
- Build applications and integrations when no-code tools are not sufficient
- Partner with department leaders to identify automation opportunities and implement them technically
- Train and support staff adoption of AI tools and agents
- Document architecture and builds so others can maintain or extend them
- Maintain data integrity, security, and access control across AI systems and integrations
- Monitor, test, and maintain production agents to keep them reliable as the business scales
Requirements
- Strong, demonstrated understanding of how AI systems fit together (models, orchestration, data storage, and agent design), beyond prompting
- Hands-on production experience building AI agents and automations, not limited to prototypes
- Strong coding ability (minimum Python and APIs) and comfort using AI tools to speed up shipping
- Experience with automation and orchestration platforms such as Make.com, n8n, Zapier, or similar tools
- Self-directed ownership of projects end to end with minimal oversight in a get-it-done environment
- Clear communicator who can translate technical work for non-technical department leaders
