Job Description

Sweet James is hiring a Senior AI Engineer in Newport Beach, CA (onsite) to lead AI initiatives from end-to-end delivery. The role owns the full cycle of learning the workflow, building and evaluating AI features, shipping to production, and supporting ongoing operations for user-facing systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Ship production AI features, including structured extraction, classification and routing, case search, and agents that draft routine work for staff approval.
  • Connect AI capabilities to core firm systems, including integrations with Salesforce/Litify, Microsoft Graph for Outlook and SharePoint, and additional services such as Zoom, Twilio, Retell, and DocuSign.
  • Build evaluation sets and tests to measure performance before release, tracking facts captured, facts missed, wrong answers, along with cost and speed for each model or prompt change.
  • Deploy services as containers on Azure, monitor them, and resolve production issues when they break.
  • Collaborate with intake, case management, records, and litigation teams before automation, then train staff on what is delivered and how it operates.
  • Document each system so other team members can run and maintain it.

Core Qualifications

  • 5+ years building production software, including 2+ years shipping LLM-powered features to real users.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous problems to shipped outcomes with limited supervision and to finish what you start.
  • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (for example Anthropic and OpenAI), including prompt design, tool use, structured outputs, retrieval, and evaluation.
  • Strong experience with Python or TypeScript/Node (both preferred), plus SQL and Postgres.
  • Experience building REST APIs and webhooks, using Git, Docker, and deploying to cloud environments (with Azure preferred).
  • Ability to work carefully with sensitive data and explain technical work in plain language.

Preferred Skills

  • Salesforce API and SOQL experience, with Litify as a plus.
  • Voice AI or telephony experience, such as Retell, Twilio, or Zoom.
  • Experience with OCR and document processing, including exposure to legal, insurance, or healthcare data.
