Senior Analytics Data Engineer

GEICO is looking for a Senior Analytics Data Engineer to help build and maintain data delivery solutions that power operational data reporting. In this hybrid role based in the Chicago, IL area, you will work within an agile team to design, test, optimize, and support critical data pipelines across multiple environments, supporting datasets, extracts, reports, and dashboards.

What you’ll do

• Apply strong knowledge of modern data architecture concepts, including data warehouses, data marts, data lakes, lakehouses, and data delivery patterns.
• Design efficient, scalable data models and data delivery solutions for complex projects, with guidance from architecture and leadership teams when needed.
• Recommend data delivery technologies and approaches that improve maintainability, performance, and usability.
• Develop and maintain automated data delivery processes for reporting and dashboards using ETL/ELT tools such as dbt and Azure Data Factory (or related technologies).
• Use advanced SQL to write, debug, optimize, and maintain queries and data pipelines.
• Support the migration of existing SAS solutions to technologies commonly used at GEICO, including dbt and Power BI.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement data models and architectures for client projects and initiatives.
• Automate daily maintenance processes and help with data and database migrations, including testing and validation.
• Contribute to team development standards and best practices such as documentation, modularization, testing, and code review expectations.
• Perform root cause analysis and performance tuning for data pipelines, queries, and reporting datasets.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members as needed.

• Assist with agile execution, including testing and validation, deployment, and post-implementation support.
• Support project and time management through estimates, status reporting, and coordination with stakeholders.
• Use strong quantitative, analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• Proficiency developing data pipelines using dbt, GitHub, and Airflow (or similar technologies).
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to multi-task and learn/apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Property & Casualty (P&C) claims data/analytics experience or other P&C insurance industry experience.
• Hybrid work requirement: location-specific.

Location

This position is a hybrid role. It requires being on-site 3 days per week at one of the following office locations: Bethesda MD, Lakeland FL, Tampa FL, Chicago IL, Buffalo NY, Melville NY, New York (Manhattan) NY, or Virginia Beach VA.

Compensation

Annual salary: USD 73,800 - 141,450 per yearly. The range is a general guideline, and multiple factors are considered to determine the final hourly rate or annual salary, including scope and responsibilities, work experience, education and training, work location, and market/business considerations.
