Senior Cybersecurity System Engineer

Overview

KBR’s National Security Solutions team delivers high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this role, you will help protect national security by providing technical expertise across traditional and cloud-based DoD Information Technology and supporting cybersecurity operations, risk management, system authorization and accreditation, vulnerability management, continuous monitoring, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical review of traditional and cloud-based DoW Information Technology cybersecurity postures using a deep understanding of complex technical protocols and the evolving threat landscape.
• Systematically identify, mitigate, and manage risks through structured security frameworks while ensuring operational strategies align with legal, regulatory, and corporate policy boundaries.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for Cross Domain Solutions (CDS), including Cloud Enterprise CDS within the DoW.
• Support DoW execution of Raise the Bar compliance by eliminating or transitioning Point to Point CDS, and by implementing Defensive Cyber Operations for CDS.
• Manage the DoW Scorecard for CDS, including creation of briefs and development of Cloud CDS processes and updates to DoW leadership.
• Act as a Technical Advisor to the DoW CIO voting members for the Defense IA/ Security Accreditation Working Group (DSAWG) and Information Risk Management Committee (ISRMC) governance boards. Prepare briefs and help ensure principals are prepared for in-depth technical reviews of presented technology and cybersecurity architectures.
• Serve as a technical member to the Cross Domain Technical Advisory Board and Information Domain Technical Advisory Boards.
• Conduct in-depth DoW cloud compliance reviews, lead risk assessment approach based on the Secure Cloud Computing Architecture framework, and support DoW organizations with cybersecurity engineering for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS cloud environments.
• Align cloud environments to DoW Instruction, Policy, and Security Requirements Guides, including Identity, Cybersecurity Service Provider Coverage, and Boundary Protections.
• Perform technical reviews and risk assessments for key DoW emerging technologies, including cloud IT projects, pilots driving Zero Trust, Software Defined Networking, and Cloud Edge Computing.
• Collaborate and communicate to influence policy changes enabling new technologies and overarching process improvements for cybersecurity initiatives, including alignment to DODI 8010.01, DODI 8530.01, CSF 2.0, Cloud SRG, Cloud SCAA, National Cross Domain Strategy Management Office (NCDSMO) Guides, and DoD Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Directive Memos.
• Bring familiarity with Identity, Credential and Access Management (ICAM), Comply to Connect, and OUSD(I&S) Collaboration Peripherals.
• Prepare and refine Congressional reports and briefs in response to NDAA tasking to both the HASC and SASC, support DoW instruction updates toward publishing, and contribute to key DoW and CISO policy memorandums.
• Provide support and analysis for DoW representatives preparing for reviews and meetings.
• Identify programmatic budget shortfalls and prepare Issue Papers and coordination actions to address identified shortfalls.
• Participate in weekly meetings and prepare reports and briefings for senior-level leaders.

Required Qualifications

• 12 or more years of experience in DoW staff positions, military service and/or cybersecurity environments/organizations.
• 4 or more years of experience crafting and developing DoW level policies pertaining to cybersecurity.
• 8 years related experience plus a Master’s degree in a technical discipline OR 12 years related experience plus a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.
• TS SCI is required.
• US Citizenship is required.

Desired Qualifications

• Familiarity with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) 2.0.
• Previous experience within a major headquarters of DoW agency staff.
• Ability to work with and appropriately protect classified and proprietary information.
• Ability to work as a team player on a mixed contractor-government team.
• Unflappable demeanor, with the ability to keep calm under pressure.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills, including direct contact with Senior DoW leadership.
• Proficiency using MS Office applications including MS Word, PPT, and Excel.
• Experience using MS SharePoint.

Compensation

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, with consideration of internal parity. Compensation range for Virginia is $165,000 to $185,000.

Additional Compensation

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation.
