Job Description

The Hanover Insurance Group seeks a Senior Data Engineer to lead the design, development, and maintenance of data integrations, pipelines, and solutions. This role can be fulfilled from Worcester, MA or remotely, with a annual salary range of USD 100,000 to 125,000.

Responsibilities

  • Proven background in data engineering and applying best practices for storage, integration, transformation, and access across Azure and on‑premises environments.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing data solutions using Azure resources such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and ADLS.
  • Extensive experience with data integration, ETL processes, and data warehousing.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, governance, and established data engineering patterns and practices.
  • Hands-on work optimizing data ingestion pipelines and notebooks for scale, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Familiarity with integration connectors including APIs, File transfers, SFTP/FTPS, Streaming Data, DB Connectors, SOAP, and REST.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration capabilities.
  • Ability to document data processes and solution designs.
  • Ensure data security and adherence to industry standards and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and DevOps practices.
  • Git/GitHub experience supporting CI/CD workflows.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and providing technical guidance to junior team members.
  • Analytical skills for profiling and analyzing large datasets.
  • Critical thinking with meticulous attention to detail and effective debugging of data solutions.
  • Collaboration with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to meet objectives.
  • Monitoring and maintaining data pipelines; designing, developing, and testing data mappings with transformation rules.
  • Ensuring data quality, reliability, and comprehensive documentation for data integration and ETL solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Information Technology, or related field.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in data engineering, data architecture, or data integration.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future (US Citizen or green card holder).

  • Microsoft DP-203 or DP-700 certification
