Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Build and operate data platforms that support growth and transformation while accelerating the analytics landscape for business and AI/ML use cases. In Hartford, CT (onsite), this Senior Data Engineer role at Travelers combines modern data engineering with governance, security, and production readiness, so end users can trust and leverage data across the organization.
What you’ll do
- Build and operationalize complex data solutions, troubleshooting issues, applying transformations, and recommending data cleansing and quality improvements.
- Design complex data solutions that incorporate new data sources, maintain consistency across projects, and align with overall data strategies.
- Analyze complex sources to determine value and usage, and recommend what data to include in analytical processes.
- Apply core data management competencies including data governance, data security, and data quality.
- Serve as a data and technology subject matter expert within lines of business, supporting delivery and educating end users on data products and the analytic environment.
- Conduct data and system analysis for high-complexity defects and incidents, resolving issues as appropriate.
- Collaborate across teams to deliver solutions and educate stakeholders on complex data products and analytics environments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM related field or equivalent.
- Ten years of related experience.
- Experience with data pipelining, data processing, and data warehousing, with strong foundations in data engineering principles and practices.
- Hands-on experience with modern data platforms and transformation tools including Databricks, Snowflake, and DBT.
- Proficiency with ETL tools such as AbInitio or Informatica, plus experience with AWS or Azure.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and/or supervisory experience, ideally within a large enterprise or corporate environment.
- Experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve workflow efficiency and optimize engineering processes.
- Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms, programming languages, and modern software engineering practices, including design strategy, automated testing, quality assurance, and system health monitoring for production readiness.
- Strong problem-solving approach using data and proofs of concept to find creative solutions, measure impact, and optimize outcomes, with a track record of domain expertise and staying current with industry trends.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to business audiences, document initiatives clearly, build partnerships, and influence priorities in ambiguous situations.

Salary range: USD $139,400 - $230,000 per year
